Budget & Precept Summary 2025/2026
Precept
What is a precept?
The precept is the tax that Parish Councils charge their local residents to cover spending on service delivery within the community. It is calculated as part of the council's budget and fills the gap between the council's planned expenditure and its estimated income. South Oxfordshire District Council collect this tax as part of your Council Tax payment, which is then split between your Parish Council, District Council, County Council, and Thames Valley Police.
Further details on how your Council Tax is used can be found online.
Precept 2025/2026
For the financial year 2025/2026 Chalgrove Parish Council has requested a precept of £146,789.
For Band D properties this is equivalent to £120.11 per household per annum; an increase of £3.27 per household on the previous year.
This increase of 8% will be used to manage and maintain the Parish Council’s facilities and to continue the services we offer to the community.

Projects for 2025/2026
Chalgrove Village Hall The Parish Council will continue with the necessary refurbishment work to ensure that the facility is fit for purpose for all local events. New air conditioning units, electrical work, new suspended ceiling, flooring, and general decoration will take place in Phase 2.
Phase 3 will see new meeting room equipment and new tables and chairs for the main hall.
Pitch Improvements The Parish Council have pledged funding and will continue to work closely with the Cavaliers FC and the Oxfordshire FA to improve the pitch conditions.
Matthew Marriage Memorial Path The Parish Council are currently researching costs in order to lay a path on the lower recreation ground, allowing better access to all outdoor facilities, in memory of Matthew Marriage following funding from the Marriage family.
Skate Park Repairs will be undertaken to the Chalgrove Skate Park in order to fill in the cracks. A Committee will be formed, involving local residents, to decide the future of the Skate Park. The facility will eventually become unviable, and we propose to have plans in place to fund and create an alternative facility for skateboarding and similar when the time is right.
Trees Chalgrove Parish Council will be assessing the Jubilee Walk trees and replacing those that are overly damaged. Two oak trees will also be planted within the village to mark the 80th anniversaries of Victory in Europe Day and Victory over Japan Day. The Parish Council will also plant 12 cherry trees within the village in honour of the serviceman who died in the war.
